Vitiligo occurs across all skin types and ethnicities, but the psychological and social impact is significantly greater in individuals with darker skin tones due to the higher contrast between normal and depigmented skin.
- Can tattoos help cover leucoderma patches?
Tattooing over vitiligo patches is generally discouraged because the Koebner phenomenon means the tattoo process itself can trigger new patches or expand existing ones. Medical camouflage is a safer option.
- What systemic diseases are associated with Pyoderma Gangrenosum?
IBD (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis) in 30–50% of cases; rheumatoid arthritis; haematological malignancies (AML, MDS); and, less commonly, HIV, hepatitis C, and solid organ malignancies.
- Is there a global register or clinical trial for leucoderma patients?
Yes. The Vitiligo Working Group maintains a global registry, and numerous clinical trials for JAK inhibitors and other novel therapies are recruiting through ClinicalTrials.gov.
- Can pregnancy affect leucoderma or pyoderma?
Pregnancy can influence immune function. Some vitiligo patients report stabilization during pregnancy; others experience new patches. Pyoderma Gangrenosum associated with pregnancy (gestational PG) is rare but documented. All treatments must be reviewed for pregnancy safety.
